I’m a 30 year old web site designer turned affiliate marketer. My short resume consists of a stint at a multi-million dollar company as an IT director (not bad for a wet behind the ears college grad with a degree in music), an Accountant Analyst/ Systems Analyst for a Fortune 500 Company, and lots of work as a consultant on manufacturing systems and networking, before getting what I considered to be a really awesome job.
I had always wanted to be a web designer. I don’t know why, but it just seemed cool. Well, I wasn’t REALLY a web designer, technically I was a web programmer analyst. A few weeks into my job, we had a staff change, and I was introduced to something called Affiliate Marketing. Since I had a background in financial analysis, my supervisor thought I might be a good fit to take over the role of the affiliate manager.
About two weeks into my “new job”, I had kicked myself forevery little fan website that I had build as a teenager or in college in the 1990’s, hosted on AOL or Lycos or some other free hosting. I found one of them recently, complete with little Amazon and Reel.com affiliate links. Too bad I didn’t know that I needed write title tags or meta tags on my pages or anything. I remember I earned $2.something in commissions, though, got a few free t-shirts from companies, and was really excited. Boy, do I wish I had known then what I know today about SEO and affiliate marketing!!
Fast forward two years from that first introduction to affiliate marketing on a professional level, and now I am co-owner of an internet marketing and web design company called DmarK Designs. We specialize in SEO and consult with affiliate advertisers, as well as operate a successful affiliate business as publishers.
